Spikezone is a modified game of mini-volleyball developed by the Australian Volleyball Federation specifically for kids in upper Primary School.
The 'Spikezone' version of the game incorporates the following modified aspects:
- Smaller Court
- Lower net height
- Softer, lighter balls
- Fewer players on court
- Modified rules to maximise enjoyment for all players
Spikezone is designed for children in upper Primary school, particularly those learning the game for the first time. There is no specific entry age for Spikezone, but if you are unsure you should send us an email and we can provide guidance or arrange a come-and-try session for your child.
How does it work?
Brisbane Volleyball Club offers Spikezone programs for junior players on a weekly basis. The programs will run similar to our Junior Training Squad (JTS) program, but using the modified 'Spikezone' version of Volleyball. Sometimes we run the Spikezone and JTS at the same time using different courts.
Our coaches will guide players through the basic skills of volleyball in a game environment to ensure they enjoy playing the game at a young age. As our players get older and start to get a grip on the basic volleyball skills, they have to option to move into our Junior Training Squad program (High School students) and/trial for our Junior club teams.
The squad trains during school weeks (not during holidays) and players sign up for each term of the year. Players can choose to opt-in and opt-out of the squad from term to term to allow them to pursue other commitments throughout the school year - or they can play all year round!
See the Term Dates table below for session dates for the upcoming term.
